2005 School Bus Demo Derby Rules

FREE ADMISSION FOR DRIVER AND ONE HELPER ONLY. NO EXCEPTIONS. ALL OTHERS MUST PAY GATE FEE AND PIT FEE.

Payouts for placing are as follows:
  1st    $1000.00
  2nd    $750.00
  3rd    $500.00
  4th    $250.00
  5th    $100.00


  • Conventional style buses ONLY. MINIMUM size: 47 passenger bus.
  • Pre-1977 buses without guarded fuel tank MUST have tanks removed and replaced with "Boat tank" or fuel cell installed inside passenger compartment. MUST be mounted in a safe and secure manner period.
  • Buses should remain stock. NO modifications to suspension or bodies. NO reinforcing of buses allowed.
  • Remove ALL glass. (Windshield optional) ALL exterior lights and mirrors, and mirror brackets. Glass should be removed BEFORE bus arrives at Fair Grounds, BUT IF NOT, MUST be disposed of properly.
  • Front entrance door (right-side): door handle linkage MUST be removed. Original door may be left in place, but MUST be securely fastened. OPTION: door may be removed BUT bottom half of opening MUST be enclosed using cross-bars or solid metal. Rear door MUST be removed.
  • Batteries MAY be moved inside of passenger compartment, BUT MUST be mounted in a safe and secure manner period. Batteries may NOT be located near "boat tank" or fuel cell.
  • Front bumper MAY be shortened for tire clearance, BUT may NOT be removed. Standard school bus tires ONLY.
  • Racing seat and racing seat belt harness permitted and HIGHLY reccommended. Driver's seat mounting should be reinforced to bus body by using steel plate under the floor. Under NO circumstance can driver's seat or seat belt system be mounted to the FRAME of the bus. ONLY non-passive seat belts may be used.
  • HELMET: Approved racing-style helmet or motorcycle helmet REQUIRED. If helmet does not have full face-shield, then goggles should be worn. Racing style neck support collar and knee pads are HIGHLY recommended.
  • In the case of an EMERGENCY, the RED FLAG will be waved, the RED LIGHTS will come on, and drivers will quit hitting and come to a STOP. ANY driver that DOES NOT cease hitting or DOES NOT stop in a reasonable period of time WILL BE disqualified. Drivers MUST pay attention to the flag man and lights at all times.
  • Obscene words, phrases, and/or pictures on buses WILL NOT be tolerated.
  • DRIVERS MUST BE SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. They MUST have a current PHOTO DRIVER'S LICENSE AND/OR PHOTO ID.
  • Any driver and/or crew member found to be or suspected of being in possesion and/or under the influence of an ILLEGAL DRUG(s) while on track property WILL be turned over to Local and/or State Law Enforcement Officers. Car WILL be disqualified from scheduled Demolition Derby. any driver and/or crew member found in possesion of and/or under the influence of alcohol, while on track property, WILL be removed and/or refused entrance to the pits. Cars can and may be barred from participating in scheduled demolition derby. IF deemed necessary, individuals WILL be turned over to Local and/or State Law Enforcement Officers.

    Any vehicle left two hours after demo ends will become property of the Butler Fair.
